Expanded Drone Coverage for Farmers Now Available Through Nationwide

Technology in agriculture continues to soar-literally. Drones, also known as Agricultural Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), have quickly become an essential tool on many farms. From scouting crops to spraying fields, drones save time, reduce labor, and improve precision in day-to-day operations.

Now, through our partnership with Nationwide, we’re excited to share an industry first: the most comprehensive drone protection solution specialized for farms-and it’s available starting October 15, 2025.

It’s important to note: this coverage is designed for private farm use only. That means it’s for drones used to manage your own agricultural land-not as part of a commercial spraying or drone service business.

What’s New

Nationwide has added two significant endorsements to better protect your farm’s investment in drone technology:

  1. Limited Aerial Application of Farm Chemicals (FL70355)
Farmers can now have coverage for the aerial application of chemicals on owned, rented, or leased land, along with incidental spraying on others’ land. For example, if you spray your own crops but occasionally help a neighbor in a non-commercial capacity, that incidental work is also covered.
  2. Property Endorsement (FP70116)
This enhancement gives you physical damage coverage for your drone-just like you’d have for a tractor, planter, or combine. The drone can be scheduled under your farm property policy, with a deductible, making it part of your insured equipment list.
Expanded Drone Coverage Available

Existing Coverage Still Included

These new endorsements build on the already-available Liability Extension (FL70331), which provides protection when your drone is used for:

  • Aerial imaging and crop scouting
  • Data acquisition and mapping
  • Other precision agriculture activities

With these three pieces-liability, property coverage, and now limited chemical application-farmers have the first truly comprehensive insurance package for agricultural drone operations.

Why This Matters for Farmers

Agricultural drones are a significant investment. The agricultural drone market is currently valued at $7.55 billion, and the technology is advancing quickly. A single drone can cost thousands of dollars-and that’s before factoring in the cost of payload systems for spraying or advanced sensors for data collection.

Without proper coverage, damage to your drone, a mishap during spraying, or liability issues from an accident could create costly setbacks. These new coverage options help protect both your equipment and your farming operation’s financial stability.

Final Reminder

This program is for private farm use only. If you’re using a drone commercially-for hire, as a business-different coverage options would be needed.
